The day Chris Wallace ceased being a journalist and betrayed America
At the debate, it wasn't the interruptions. It was the questions he didn't ask.
This has not been a good week for Chris Wallace. First, the CNN streaming service he bolted to from Fox News was found to have fewer than 10,000 subscribers. Heck, I have a free daily newsletter that does better. Then, in part because of him, the Republican National Committee pulled out of the liberal presidential debate commission that infamously chose Wallace as a moderator in 2020.
Let's zero in on that debate for a moment. Contrary to conventional wisdom, it wasn't the obnoxious interruptions that made Wallace's performance so odious. It was a larger issue.
Much of America was hoping that Wallace would do something no one else in the liberal media had done in 2020 -- hold the basement dwelling Biden accountable for *something*.
The Obama Spygate scandal was the perfect opening. Fox News evening hosts had been covering the story for months as they should have. It is unprecedented in American history that an outgoing presidential administration would falsely investigate, spy on, and frame the opposing party's presidential nominee and president-elect. And Joe Biden had been in a crucial Oval Office meeting Jan. 5, 2017 when the scheme was discussed. He also tried to "unmask" the identity of Trump associates and had never been asked about it.
Good journalism demanded Wallace explore the topic. No more ducking -- a presidential debate required a candidate to address the questions his network's star hosts were asking every night. Fair-minded Americans wanted to see accountability.
But in a 90-minute debate, the supposed toughest political interviewer in Washington asked exactly zero Obama Spygate questions. It was a conscious decision to shiv journalism, his network's stars and America in the heart. It was a key moment in the 2020 campaign. The back-and-forth between Wallace, Biden, and Trump on this topic likely would have been explosive and game-changing.
Wallace had more important terrain to cover, asking kindergarten-level questions such as, "do you believe in climate change?" "Why are you holding big rallies?" and "Will you condemn white supremacists?" which Trump had answered previously.
Conservatives noticed Fox News' leftward tilt in the 2020 campaign, and it wasn't just the bad Fox News polls, or the premature Arizona call on election night. It was Chris Wallace, the man who theoretically could pierce the liberal media's blatant anti-Trump bias, and chose to parrot it instead.
The corruption of the Washington media was on full display during the Trump presidency. They heralded every anti-Trump narrative and blanket refused to cover those that differed. Those games could not be played at a presidential debate if a moderator was intellectually honest and fair. There is no possible way Wallace could have believed that the spying scandal was insignificant. Fox News was created and thrived because it covered the stories the liberal media was trying to hide. In so many ways, the situation demanded that Wallace ask Biden questions about the scandal.
Instead of journalism and integrity in 2020, Wallace chose the Swamp. He's now knee-deep in it at CNN, supposedly frustrated that his new network is providing no support for his ghost town streaming service. Who could possibly want more of CNN and pay for it to boot?
History is already proving that the Fox News hosts who covered Obama Spygate, the Hunter Biden/Joe Biden laptop scandal, and countless other stories were correct and the Swampy Liberal Media Club that Chris Wallace chose over real journalism was wrong.
Chris Wallace reportedly is not happy in his new home and throws fits at those around him. His screams into the abyss are nothing compared to America's on the day Chris Wallace betrayed us.
Time wounds all heels, it seems. What comes around goes around. Karma is a Trump, getting even. I'll be watching with interest.
I have always despised that worm, Wallace. My contempt for him has been justified.
